GENDER EQUALITY- YAY or NAY?? (Enigmatic Ol'Major's View)

NIGERIAN WOMEN!!! WILL YOU KEEP KWAYET?

Yes lets's hear word. Is something wrong with some of you? What's all these wailing for gender equality about? Is it food? Is that the new phrase
for orgasm? Please stay in your lane and let's hear word.

Before you curse or insult me, let me remind you that Hilary Clinton is on the verge of becoming the most powerful woman in the world. And many men like me are in support of her ambition. Isn't that worth pondering over? Before you ponder, let me beckon a little bit of her history here.

As a First lady of the United States, her husband was allegedly involved in a sexual scandal with one Monica Lewinsky between 1995 and 1997. Despite that heartbreaking revelation, Hilary stood by her husband and still supported him. She didn't slaughter him like one Nigerian lady did to her husband recently. She didn't wail or protest. That's how a woman gains equality among the comity of men. That's how a woman earns respect. A two term Senator and former Secretary of State, hun? Now she's vying for the same office her husband once occupied.

I thought education was meant to refine African women. On the contrary, it has redefined most of our women. Marriages are breaking down more than ever. Divorce rate has increased monumentally. Our family norms have suddenly become nightmares. Our ladies now prioritize thoughts over feelings. Subservience to one's husband is now evil. Subordination is now an abomination in a world civilization. Kneeling down in appreciation of your husband's supportive gesture is now termed as modern slavery if you have a Phd. Where did you all learn these absurdities from? What happened to our lofty values and tenderness of motherhood? Whither lies your pride as the pillars of our homes?

This dramatic momentum is puzzling. I expect our generation to balance civilization with morals. We can't afford to pollute this generation with the ego of contemporary feminism. If you distinguish yourself in your career, you are already equal to any man. If you can fend for yourself and pay your bills, you are not lesser than any man. What makes me better than a woman who flies a plane in which I am a passenger? How am I greater than a female colleague who paid the same amount of university tuition and got the same kind of professional training? That is equality.

Gender equality is not a paperwork. It is not a tangible or corporal substance that you can feel with your hands. It is not a solid matter. It doesn't require the approval of a beer parlour Senate. It is equally not a vague principle.

Why not strive for excellence in your career? Why lament over a legislative travesty of ineffectual buffoons in the Nigerian Senate? Why not intimidate men with your intellect? That's how I feel when I read some of my female friends' post. They don't just make sense, they technically manufacture sense.

Go and rebrand our values. Don't trash them.
